SCFC’s Advisory Council

The Suffolk Christian Fellowship Center Advisory Council, a group of community stakeholders that works collaboratively with the Program Development Team at SCFC to address the shared vision and challenges of the SCFC's mission in ensuring that our neighbors in need have food security.

Meet the Team

  • Harry Cross III (Consultant)

    For 46 years, Mr. Cross, a Suffolk native, has helped buyers and sellers accomplish their real estate goals. As the owner/broker of Cross Realty, Mr. Cross carries on a family tradition of real estate and appraisal expertise. He has received numerous Gold sales and Platinum award. He is a Broker and held the Certified General Real Estate Appraiser license. Mr. Cross has also served as Chairman of REIN, which is the Multiple Listing Service for all of Hampton Roads. He was Chairman of the Suffolk-Franklin Board of Realtors before its merger with the other regional boards. Following his parents examples, Harry is also a well-known community leader. Throughout his career, Harry has served as President of the Rotary Club, Chairman of the Suffolk Chamber of Commerce, Chairman of the local YMCA and member of the regional board of directors, Chairman of the United Way, Chairman of the Community Action Coalition, Board member and past President of the Suffolk Foundation, Sunday School teacher for forty-five years, and President of the Suffolk Youth Athletic Association for ten years. In recognition of his community involvement, Harry received the Jaycee's Outstanding Young Man award.

  • Rhonda Hayes

    Born in Dillon County, South Carolina, Mrs. Hayes journey begins when she graduated from Coker College in Hartsville, SC., with her B.A. in English and Communications in 1979. She received her Paralegal Certificate in 1990 from Old Dominion University, Norfolk, Va. Her first professional job was Traffic Director, Announcer, and Promotions Manager at WDSC (hometown 100,000-watt radio station, in Dillon, SC. She currently works at WHRO TV 15 in Norfolk, VA., as a Media Operations Manager after starting as a Master Control Operator, and has been there for more than 30 years. She also has a part-time job with H&R Block Tax Service that has lasted for 25 years. Her other current part-time job is with the Trinity Broadcasting Network (TBN) as Broadcast Engineer. Mrs. Hayes volunteering work includes the church food bank each Saturday and Annual community block leader for the American Heart Association. She also collects donated items for SCFC from work, friends, and family. Mrs. Hayes is also a fitness trainer and leas a spin bike class at Women's Workout each Tuesday and Thursday mornings. She leads a Saturday morning women;s group fitness class at New Hope Church of God in Christ. As a leader of Christianity, she worships at her home church of Bethel Hill A.M.E. Church in Latta, SC; New Hope COGIC in Norfolk, VA; and at Suffolk Christian Fellowship Ministry in Suffolk, VA.

  • Cynthia Wadley

    Born in Philadelphia, PA and raised in Charlotte NC, Mrs. Wadley served in the United States Coast Guard for 21 years. She earned her Bachelor's Degree from Norfolk State University in Special Education. She has worked at Suffolk Public Schools (SPS) as a Special Education Teacher and a Substitute Teacher in Suffolk and Portsmouth. She has also served on Suffolk's Special Education Committee as a teacher and on the Special Education Advisory Board as a parent. She is a partner of the Love Center Family Church under Dr. Joseph and Pastor Debra Hill; and has been for over 20 years.

  • Eric Crawley

    Eric Crawley was born and raised in Emporia, Va. where he graduated from Greensville County High School in 1998. While living in Emporia, Eric volunteered for food pantries, clothes closets, and youth summer camps. He taught Sunday School, Bible Study, lead the male chorus, and became an ordained minister. Eric and his family moved to Suffolk, Va. in 2007 where he has served as a Suffolk Police Officer for 15 years. He is currently a sergeant in charge of the training division. Eric is the senior pastor of The Dwelling Place Ministries (Suffolk) where their main mission is to reach out to the community to meet the needs of the entire family. Eric and his wife host marriage retreats and are mentors to singles as well. Eric has been a volunteer tutor at Creekside Elementary School and is currently a youth mentor for The Up Center’s Team Up Program. Eric is currently enrolled at The Berean Light Bible Institute seeking his Associates Degree in Christian Education.

  • David Kenny

    Graduated from Forest Glen High School. Mr. Kenny has an Associates Degree in Business Management from Tidewater Tech. He has been downtown business owner in Suffolk for 20 years.

  • Beth Lyon-Suhring

    Beth is a native of West Virginia and holds a BA in English from St. Andrews University in Laurinburg, NC, a Master’s Degree in Library Science from UNC-CH, and a Master’s Degree in Christian Education from Union Presbyterian Seminary. She and her husband Steve live in an old farmhouse in Suffolk which they rescued from the wrecking ball, and which, thirty years later, is still a work in progress.

  • Sylvester Askins Jr.

    Sylvester serves as Training Director for the National Working Positive Coalition. He is also the founder and CEO of Moving Forward Consulting, which was established to assist PLWH in accessing the information and resources needed to make informed decisions about reaching their employment goals and attaining long-term economic security. Before founding MFC, Sylvester worked at the Endependence Center, a Center for Independent Living (CIL) in Norfolk, VA. He coordinated the agency's Ticket to Work Program, funded by the Social Security Administration. In this role, he assisted individuals with disabilities across all degrees of the disability spectrum to prepare for and obtain meaningful work. He is trained as a Community Work Incentive Coordinator (Benefits Counselor). He has focused his efforts on work incentive policies that assist people living with HIV to make well-informed financial decisions about work. He is a seasoned facilitator and nationally certified trainer. In addition, Sylvester has many years of experience as an Advocate and Activist, including working for several major labor unions as a Labor Organizer, assisting union members to fight for better wages and employee-friendly work environments. Sylvester is dedicated to educating and empowering people living with HIV with evidence-based practices and interventions that enhance quality of life.

  • Jasmine Wilkins

    Jasmine Wilkins was born in Norfolk, Virginia and raised between Norfolk and Suffolk, Virginia, as she was raised alongside Suffolk Christian Fellowship Ministries and Center. She graduated from The Art Institute of Virginia Beach with a BA in Fashion Marketing and Retail management with a focus on business development (Dec 2016), and was ordained as a Minister of Suffolk Christian Fellowship Ministries (Mar 2017). Jasmine previously worked for JOANN Stores, Inc for 3 years, working in various positions - the highest being Assistant Manager. She has owned 2 businesses, Beauty X Nihilo LLC, a fashion design and seamstress service, as well as Keep It Moving Logistics, Inc., a trucking company. She has also worked for Williams-Sonoma Inc, as a work-from-home Call Center Associate, and currently serves as the Project Coordinator for Suffolk Christian Fellowship Center.

  • David Miles

    Major David Miles is an honor graduate of Norfolk State University where he received a B.S. in Mass Communications in 2001. He began his law enforcement career in 2006 with the Virginia Beach Sheriff’s Office where he gained valuable experience in correctional and court operations. In 2015, in order to serve in the community in which he resides, he transitioned to the Suffolk Sheriff’s Office where he has faithfully served the city and citizens of Suffolk. Major Miles was appointed to Chief Deputy in 2019 and is the recipient of the FBI-LEEDA Trilogy Award. In order to build bridges between law enforcement and the community, Major Miles is a part of various community organizations and is the president of the Suffolk Education Foundation.

  • Charnell W. Blair

    Charnell is a native of Suffolk with family in the wider rural community for several generations. As a graduate of Mary Washington College, now University of Mary Washington, with a BS degree, she began work in education conducting special reading classes and related presentations to teachers in the Bluefield, Virginia and West Virginia area. After moving back to Suffolk, Charnell recognized a need for financial guidance in an increasingly complex world and after further study to become a Certified Financial Planner, she founded Wellspring Financial Concepts, a registered investment advisory and financial planning firm. Charnell has been past president of the Tidewater Financial Planning Association, the Suffolk Art League, and a founding member of the Board of Directors of Friends of Barnabas, a charitable organization with a medical mission in the remote mountains of Honduras. Now retired, Charnell focuses on volunteer work in the community and supporting programs in her church, while staying open and available to learn new things.
